Self-Promotion: A Mark of Carnality
For when one says, “I am of Paul,” and another, “I am of Apollos,” are you not carnal?
1 Corinthians 3:4
Listen to this real carefully. Here in verse 4, the Lord really revealed something to my heart. Paul was saying, “You do not have to promote yourself. We are to promote Jesus Christ.”
What do we see in the world today? What do we see on television today? People promoting themselves. We live in the generation of reality television. Everybody is trying to be a celebrity.
What do the Scriptures say? Promotion does not come from the east or the west. It comes from the Lord. He lifts up one and takes down another. I love that. I do not want to be anywhere God does not want me to be. I want to be in His perfect will.
If He wants me to be a toe, I will be a toe. I will be content in darkness, if that is where God wants me. It does not matter, if that is where God has me. I have to remember, the toe brings balance to the whole body. It is a very important part of the body. I can stand on one foot because of my toes. If I did not have them, I could not do it.
Paul spent time really addressing the signs of carnality because they bring destruction. Self-promotion is carnality and it will destroy the believer.
Most of the trouble in the world is caused by people wanting to be important.
